Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)

Take a seat, enjoy the ride, and prepare to stand up multiple times to dance!

This documentary takes you back to 1969, a year you might associate with Woodstock, the recent death of Martin Luther King, the last performance of the Beatles and the first man in the moon.

However, it is a shame we do not think of the Harlem Cultural Festival when thinking of this year, and this documentary will tell you why. How this piece of history was skilfully left out of the media, dispite there being enough footage.

This documentary takes you into the social landscape of the late 1960s, but manages to alternate this with the performances of the greatest soul and funk legends ever.

Surprise after surprise as yet another great artist enters the picture. Followed by a clear description of how it is possible that we knew nothing about this festival.

An instructive, sad and at the same time festive rollercoaster of a documentary. A real must watch.
