Reservation Dogs ❤️‍🩹

Het enige nadeel van deze serie is dat ie kort is, want het is een: “a stereotype-smashing, Tarantino-esque triumph” en een “a Coming-of-All-Ages Masterpiece”.

Reservation Dogs (op Disney+) is een baanbrekende komedie over de avonturen van vier inheemse tieners op het platteland van Oklahoma die stelen, roven en sparen om in het exotische, mysterieuze en verre Californië te komen. Een serie die zo min mogelijk uitlegt, maar je gewoon meeneemt naar deze volwaardige wereld vol interessante en grappige mensen.

En helemaal gemaakt door inheemse volken: het volledige schrijversteam, de voltallige crew en het merendeel van de cast. Zo kan de serie scherp zijn en soepel spelen met stereotypen, zonder dat het ongemakkelijk is.

In mijn immer voortdurende zoektocht naar series die serieus en héél erg goed zijn maar niet zo zwaar en donker (Sopranos, Game of Thrones, The Wire) vond ik al Ted Lasso, Only Murders in the Building en Hacks.

Reservation Dogs doet, net als Somebody Somewhere iets extra bijzonders: het behandelt zware onderwerpen op een toegankelijke en zelfs luchtige manier, zonder ze minder serieus te nemen.

En dat werkt fenomenaal.

Ik leer, voel, lach en ervaar met een groep mensen waar ik veel te weinig van wist.

En het is ook nog eens een ‘coming of age’ verhaal - m’n lievelings.

Het enige nadeel dus, maar 28 afleveringen van 25 min. Mijn hoop is dat de makers over 10 jaar nog eens laten zien hoe het met Bear, Cheese, Elora Danan en Willie gaat.
